No, not the book Jane Austen never got to write but close. This is the story of the nice little piece of, yet unfinished, embroidery above. If you follow me on Instagram (and why wouldn’t you: @kenguroo) You have seen it in progress and may have recognized the design from different places (like the very last post before my long hiatus for example) but here is the full history: If you are an artist or a craftsman /woman, you know what I’m talking about. You have an idea. Its g

These two pieces are not for sale. They are for my table infront of my ceramics line in The Brooklyn Collective. The peacock will hold my postcards and the frame is for my about-the-artist paragraph.
Can’t wait to see them fired. Show opens in one week. #birds #BrooklynCollective #ceramics #wallhanging
As you know I’m working on ceramics pieces for my show in September. Those are complicated and time consuming and even though I’m not sure how much I want to charge for them yet, I realize that they might not be affordable for a lot of people I know. So I decided to make simpler, smaller, cheaper pieces in addition to the bigger one. In the picture are little birds ornaments all ready for the kiln. They might all look the same at first glance but they are made individually by
It was amazing! Oliver flew with me and had the time of his doggie life turning from a city dog into a wild and free nature dog We had a great time but I also got a lot done and Im really pleased. I call it workation but I dont concider ceramics work, I consider it fun. Of course if i had to do it for a living it would have turned into work in my mind. before I left I asked a local old fashion blacksmith to make me what looks like very large cookie cutters out of tin. They ar

is the name of the design of the fabric I bought from the wonderful Skinny Laminx. It came in so wonderfully wrapped that I had a hard time opening it. Im going to make curtains out of it. Never made curtains before but how hard can it be right? …right? #birds #fabric #scandinavian #textiledesign
I am exhausted and splattered with turquoise ink from head to toe but second color is down! Few little misses here and there (adds character) but the transparency works and over all looks great. Only 2 classes left so Ill try and come in to do the last color this week. Can’t wait to see it done! #Etsy #peacock #printmaking #birds #2012 #calendar #printmaking #teatowel

My new 3 colors + transparency design for a screen printed tea towel. It is inspired by the time honored tradition of calendar towels during the golden era 1950s-1970s.
I’m starting to print a small edition of 20 towels on Wednesday. Very exciting! #Etsy #peacock #printmaking #birds #2012 #calendar #printmaking #teatowel
This was hard! I got a lot of prints wrong. The point is to print with 2 transparent colors and where they overlap they create a third color. Here is the original design: I’ve tried 2 color combinations: magenta and cyan and bright orange and turquoise. the second option is more successful i think If the 2 colors don’t align slightly it looks charming and hand made but some of them came out completely misaligned which looks like this: I’ve got some good prints out of it but n
Today was our first actually-printing silk screen class and it was really fun! we started with the most simple – one color prints. Mine is of a design I made of birds in a tree. It came out really well in dark olive green on really nice heavy rag paper. Next week I will start my 2 color print – It’s of my second favorite motif – mermaids! I cant wait. At the end of the semester I will put them all on etsy all signed and numbered and very reasonably priced. I might also have
If you know me, you know that when it comes to design, my favorite things are: Mid-Century Modern, textile, Scandinavia and birds. So when I find on ebay such a perfect combination of all four naturally I have to buy it. Look at these lovely 2.5 yards of fabric!
Its by Stobo of Sweden, around 1955, very rare and in perfect never-been-used condition. Not sure what I will do with it yet but I think its absolutely fabulous. I stretched it on my couch this morning and my usual mo
I carved these plates when I was in school and they were in storage for at least 8 years. They are not in the best condition and the print is not perfect but I’m pretty pleased with the results. Cant wait to finish my new 3 color print. #birds #blockprint #printingpress #printmaking
My recent work out of the kiln. They were not glazed because of the interesting yellowish speckled clay I used. We used black oxide on the bird plaque to enhance the texture and the big baby bird joined some older friends for a rather dramatic photoshoot. #birds #ceramics
